Creamery Road - New Construction
With the warmth of a Douglas fir timber frame, grandeur of a two story cathedral ceiling spanning an open kitchen, dining and great room, and stunning views this home proves beauty can be efficient.

Under its finishes this home sports a foundation of Insulated Concrete Forms, wall & roof structures comprised of Structural Insulated Panels, triple pane insulated windows, air sealing throughout and a heat recovery ventilator.  This home regulates the interior temperature with minimal mechanical requirements, while providing its occupants with consistent fresh air and it is so tight, blower door results are to the Passive House standard.

Stonefront - New Construction
After enduring a full loss of their 1800’s farmhouse to an electrical fire, this client intended to reconstruct their home with us.  At the start of the project we set out to match the layout and design details to those of the original structure, but during the demolition phase the Ironwood team quickly determined many key elements of the home were not as original as the client thought.

With little salvageable materials or structure we worked with the client to layout the new home in a way that was more conducive to their modern lives, while retaining the charm of the original.  The updated design provides an open floor plan that welcomes natural light and makes the space feel larger.  A cathedral ceiling also enlarges the interior and showcases the handsome hand cut timber framing, while attention to air sealing and insulation retains the heat during the winter. For the summer, operable windows are situated to naturaly cool the interior with prevalent breezes.

With a soapstone wood stove and countertops, custom cherry cabinetry, wide plank hickory flooring, dual flush toilet and low flow plumbing fixtures this home will retain the appeal of the original while taking advantage of modern technologies.

MacDonald McCarthy Residence - New Construction
Previously a rustic cabin, the owners of this site wanted to update their home to create a healthy, efficient house to start a family in.  Totally off the grid, this house was re-designed to maximize solar gains while re-using the existing foundation, first floor framing and current utility systems.  Almost all the original roof framing was re-used as floor joists and other framing members for the new second floor.  All the walls were insulated with high performance dense pack cellulose.

The owners now rave about the increase in energy from the solar system due to the optimized panel locations, the quality of the interior space and the abundance of natural light with minimal heat loss.

Cope Residence - Renovation
This addition was designed to expand the areas most used by the owners, the living and crafts rooms, while increasing the building’s energy efficiency.  The new design was detailed to meld with the current architecture, while increasing the functionality and comfort of the noted interior spaces.  A moveable island was custom designed to deal with the ever changing storage and layout needs in the crafts room, while LED fixtures were used for task lighting to minimize energy usage.  Other custom features included built in book shelves, a custom sewing table, built in entertainment storage and custom bathroom vanity with handmade basin from Mexico.

With the increased insulation and additional solar photovoltaic panels these homeowners are now enjoying lower utility bills with more space.

Reid Residence - Renovation
After taking ownership of this house the owner wished to update some second floor spaces to meet her personal and professional needs.  Two bedrooms with low ceilings and a hard to use sitting space were re-designed to accommodate a new master bedroom, with full bathroom, as well as new office space.

With the existing structure in need of some TLC the framing was re-enforced and the roof was re-built to allow for better proportions in the second floor spaces, while also providing increased insulation and a tighter building envelope.  It was finished with a standing seam metal roof that will provide decades of worry free service.  The performance of the home was also improved by all new walls being insulated with dense pack cellulose.
